Takara is a British headpiece and accessory designer-maker based in Sheffield. We create beautiful, delicate and elaborate pieces for every special occasion. Our creations of distinctive designs and styles are made for women who want to show their individuality through fashion, and appreciate fine craftsmanship, originality, and quality. Not only are our pieces beautiful fashion items, each of them is a unique piece of wearable work of art.
With great finesse, all of our pieces are created by using the traditional craft of Tsumami-Zaiku – an artisan skill originated in the Japanese aristocracy, dating back to the late 18th century. Today, it is still used extensively to make exquisite floral headpieces for Maikos (apprentice Geishas). Tsumami-Zaiku is a delightful union of Japanese tradition, culture, and nature. We aim to bring this over two-century-old craft into modern fashion, so as to create distinctive, unique, and alternative headpieces. >>Read more about the history of Tsumami-Zaiku

Fabric is the predominant material of Tsumami-Zaiku. We always source the best fabric to achieve the perfect result. We use lightweight, fine fabric such as habutae silk and cotton lawn to reduce weight and to give a smooth finish to our pieces. Rice glue is another vital traditional material to the craft. Through numerous experiments, we created our own recipe, and we produce our very own homemade rice glue to ensure its quality. Making a piece through Tsumami-Zaiku involves fabric-cutting, folding, and assembling, all of which require intricate and precise handiwork that cannot be replicated by machinery. Tsumami-Zaiku demands immense labour, precision, and skills; some of our pieces take days or weeks to complete. Every piece is the product of hard work, attention to detail, and passion.
